Breakfast Sundae

Toppings have made me ❤ breakfast.  It really feels like I’m building a sundae.  It’s unfortunate that hot fudge is not an acceptable breakfast food.  Then I would really be in loooooooooooove.


In the bowl:

  • Vanilla siggi’s yogurt
  • Cottage cheese
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Crushed pineapple
  • Kashi Go Lean Crunch
  • Yellow Squash mini muffin crumbles (stay tuned for this recipe!)
  • Natures sprinkles


Perfect fuel for a busy day!

The Real Deal

Do you know what made this meal perfect?


Butter.  Real butter.  Not margarine or any of those things that claim to taste just like it.  Only butter tastes like butter.  And did you know it’s the same amount of calories as margarine?  That’s because fat is fat.  All of it is 9 calories per gram.  Sorry to get all technical on you; it’s just ingrained in me to share mind-blowing information like this.


So you might be wondering, why eat margarine then?  Well it’s all about the type of fat.  Margarines are made with vegetable oils, the kind of fats that are healthier for your heart (as long as the trans fat has been eliminated, which most are moving towards).


Butter on the other hand has saturated fat (the kind that comes from animals).  This is the kind of fat that’s not heart healthy.  However, in moderation it’s an okay choice.  Not gobs and gobs of it, because that would be bad.  Hurt your heart bad.  But some.

I always consider the food at hand when deciding margarine, butter, or other fat for that matter.  I treat my fats as and item that pairs well with certain foods.  Olive oil with steamed green beans, butter on good bread, margarine on grilled cheese.  You get the point.  This helps keep them all in moderation and gives me the most flavorful food.

And in case you were wondering what else was on my plate tonight:  whole wheat waffles, blueberries, and maple sausage.  Sorry no veggies tonight.  It happens to the best of us!
