Christmas Time Is Here

I’m all ready!  The tree is up.  Almost all of the Christmas shopping is done.  All the gifts I have are wrapped and under the tree. 


The kitties helped me by sleeping straight through the wrapping.

I was shocked, but pleased!


Cards have been printed and I’m stuffing the envelopes probably as you read this.  The nativity is set up.  The stockings are hung (by the chimney with care…or lack of chimney).  I guess I’ll just sit back and enjoy the season.
Oh wait!  There is one thing left to prepare.  Cookies!  It’s tradition that my mom, sister and I share the cookie baking duties and then swap to enjoy a greater variety.  This year we’ve decided to bake some alone, but also to make some new kinds together.  That adventure is this Saturday.  Most of the evenings this week I’ll be baking my assigned cookies.  With Steve’s help of course.  I couldn’t do it alone.  It’s going to be a fun week!
Many simple dinners are in order for the week, starting tonight.  Vegetable soup from the freezer and mini beer breads. 

We each got to season and decorate two mini loaves.  I made a poppy seed and a dill sesame seed.  Steve made a chipotle and a garlic salt sesame seed. 


Each had it’s own topping.  Leftover strawberry sauce for the poppy seed.  Butter for the dill sesame seed.  Peach jam for the garlic sesame seed.  The chipotle was all Steve; I’m not a fan.

Have I given you the beer bread recipe?  I can’t remember, but since it’s such a staple in our house I will share. 

Beer Bread

  • 1 1/2 cup white flour
  • 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 12 ounces beer
  • drizzle olive oil

Preheat oven to 375*.  Mix all dry ingredients and seasonings if desired.  Pour beer and mix until just combined.  Pour into greased bread pan.  Drizzle with olive oil.  Add toppings if desired.  Bake 45 minutes to 1 hour if one loaf.  Bake 20-30 minutes if four mini loaves.  Enjoy!


30+ Minutes Movement:  Forty minute walk and a little jog outside through an adjacent neighborhood to provide new scenery.  Lots of good hills to climb too!
